His target is Joanna Eris (Ashley Judd), who swaps names, wigs and cities as easily as lovers — and leaves bodies behind her. Ewan McGregor plays the watcher who quietly stops reporting and starts protecting her instead, a guardian angel shadowing a killer. The longer he follows, the less it resembles a mission and the more it feels like an obsession. Director Stephan Elliott adapts Marc Behm's novel into something hypnotic and nearly wordless, trading a tidy mystery for atmosphere and two faces.
