Synopsis
Shooting Stars (2023) is a sports drama you can watch online on iFILM. Long before the championship rings, four kids from Akron, Ohio and a teenager named LeBron James built a high school basketball team that the whole country came to know. Chris Robinson directs.
The film stays small on purpose. Its subject isn't the NBA legend but the boy still figuring out how to carry everyone's expectations. Newcomer Mookie Cook plays LeBron, surrounded by his childhood friends — the so-called Fab Four of Akron's St. Vincent-St. Mary High. Wood Harris steps in as their coach, with Dermot Mulroney and Natalie Paul rounding out the grown-ups. Loyalty, jealousy, early losses and one pact: make it together or not at all.
The script draws on the memoir LeBron James co-wrote with Buzz Bissinger of Friday Night Lights fame. Robinson, who cut his teeth on hip-hop videos, shoots the games in quick, punchy bursts over an early-2000s soundtrack.
