All Day and a Night

Ashton Sanders, known from Moonlight, plays Jahkor, a young man serving a life sentence who spends his days in prison piecing together how he got there.

The film moves between Jahkor's cell and the years that preceded his crime: a single mother doing her best, a pregnant girlfriend, a neighbourhood where the exit routes are few and the wrong turns permanent. Jeffrey Wright plays his father, in a role smaller than his billing and more important than any other in the film. Cole keeps the structure tight — this is about accumulation, how small losses compound into something that feels predetermined long before the verdict.
