Season 1
Before the Mafia, there was the Borgia.
Synopsis
Borgia (2011), Season 1 brings twelve episodes of Renaissance crime drama you can watch online on iFILM — Rome in 1492, where the papal throne is the ultimate prize and Cardinal Rodrigo Borgia means to seize it.
The pope is dying. Rodrigo buys cardinals one vote at a time, and when the white smoke finally rises he walks out of the conclave as Pope Alexander VI. Holding the office turns out to be harder than winning it. He marries young Lucrezia off to a Sforza to forge an alliance, watches his son Juan bungle a military campaign, and faces a French army marching on the Eternal City. Underneath it all, his sons Cesare and Juan keep circling each other for their father's favour.
This is the European version produced by Tom Fontana — grimier and colder than the glossier costume dramas, anchored by John Doman. If you want palace intrigue stripped of polish, this season earns its runtime. Stream Borgia Season 1 online on iFILM.
