Synopsis
Cagney & Lacey (1982) is a CBS crime series you can watch online on iFILM — all seven seasons. Detectives Christine Cagney and Mary Beth Lacey are NYPD partners with nothing in common but the job: Cagney is single, driven and always angling for the next move; Lacey is married, grounded and fiercely practical. Together they take on cases their male colleagues would rather leave alone.
The show ran through 1988, and it changed what a cop drama could look like. Tyne Daly played Lacey for every episode. Sharon Gless took over as Cagney from season two, replacing Meg Foster, and the two of them proceeded to collect six Emmy Awards between them — at one point competing against each other in the same category and taking turns winning. That's the kind of television chemistry that doesn't happen by accident.
