Synopsis
Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll (2010) is a British biopic you can watch online on iFILM. Andy Serkis — best known for motion-capture characters — gives a fully physical, lived-in performance as Ian Dury, the poet-musician who contracted polio at seven and went on to disrupt British rock in the late 1970s.
Dury co-founded Ian Dury and the Blockheads and wrote lyrics that sounded like nothing else on the charts. The film, directed by Mat Whitecross, doesn't clean him up: Olivia Williams plays the wife he can't stay faithful to, Tom Hughes plays the son he's largely absent for, and Naomi Harris is the girlfriend caught in between. All three are strong, but Serkis never lets you forget who the film belongs to.
It's rarely comfortable. That's the point. Stream Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll (2010) online on iFILM.
