Synopsis

Supersonic (2016) is a British music documentary you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Mat Whitecross and covering Oasis from their earliest rehearsals in Manchester to the two nights at Knebworth in August 1996, when 250,000 people turned up — a figure that still puts most modern tours to shame.

Whitecross sat down with Noel and Liam Gallagher separately, alongside their mother Peggy, original drummer Tony McCarroll, and manager Marcus Russell. The interviews aren't polished. The brothers remember the same stories differently, contradict each other across edit cuts, and laugh at things that were probably genuinely awful at the time. The archival footage — live shows, tour buses, recording sessions — is cut in without sentimentality. It feels like evidence rather than tribute.

What makes the film hold up a decade after release is that Noel and Liam come across as actual people rather than rock mythology. Two working-class brothers from Burnage who somehow ended up leading the biggest band in Britain, and who spent those three years being both the best and worst thing that happened to each other.
