Season 1
Synopsis
The Witness for the Prosecution (2016), Season 1 is a two-part BBC crime drama you can watch online on iFILM. London, the 1920s: wealthy society lady Emily French is found murdered in her townhouse.
Suspicion lands on Leonard Vole, a penniless veteran the rich older woman had taken under her wing not long before she died. The evidence points straight at him, and only one thing can keep him off the gallows — an alibi from his wife, Romaine. Solicitor Mayhew clings to that hope while he builds the defence. Then the trial veers somewhere no one in the room saw coming.
Writer Sarah Phelps reshapes Agatha Christie's short story into a grimy, post-war drama where almost no one tells the whole truth. Toby Jones plays the worn-down lawyer, with Andrea Riseborough, Billy Howle and Kim Cattrall around him. Two episodes, tight and unhurried — easy to recommend to anyone who likes a proper English mystery. Stream The Witness for the Prosecution Season 1 online on iFILM.
