Synopsis
Departure (2016) is a quiet British–French drama you can watch online on iFILM. Beatrice and her teenage son Elliot drive out to a remote house in the South of France to pack it up for sale — and, without quite meaning to, to close a chapter of their lives.
Over one slow week, everything unspoken floats up. Beatrice's marriage has gone cold, fifteen-year-old Elliot is wrestling with a sexuality he barely understands, and the gap between mother and son keeps widening. Then a local boy named Clément drifts in — guarded, hard to read — and each of them quietly wants something from him. Juliet Stevenson plays the unravelling mother, Alex Lawther the son learning to leave.
Andrew Steggall's first feature trades plot for mood: long takes, French light, desire left half-said. One for viewers who like their coming-of-age stories small, European and a little raw. Stream Departure (2016) online on iFILM.
