Synopsis

You Can Live Forever (2023) is a Canadian romantic drama about a forbidden first love, and you can watch online on iFILM. After her father dies, teenager Jaime is sent to live with her aunt in small-town Quebec, inside a tight-knit Jehovah's Witness community where being gay is simply not allowed.

At the local Kingdom Hall, Jaime (Anwen O'Driscoll) meets Marike (June Laporte), a model believer and an elder's daughter. What sparks between them is something neither girl is permitted to name or stop. Secret notes, stolen hours, the constant dread of being found out — each will have to choose between the feeling and the only world she has ever known. Co-directors Sarah Watts and Mark Slutsky set it in the 1990s and play it in quiet half-tones, refusing both easy condemnation and a tidy fairy-tale ending. It's a tender, aching queer story for anyone who loves honest coming-of-age dramas like Carol or Portrait of a Lady on Fire. Stream You Can Live Forever (2023) online on iFILM.
