Synopsis

Attorney Leslie Williams commits what she believes is a perfect crime: she kills her husband and stages his kidnapping, complete with ransom letters and a pre-recorded phone call from the 'victim'. The FBI buys it. Colleagues offer condolences. Only Lt. Columbo can't quite shake a vague, persistent feeling that something about the grieving widow is off. He has no evidence. Just a crooked antenna and a lot of patience.
Lee Grant plays Leslie as a woman who has never been the second-sharpest person in a room and doesn't know how to prepare for it. That certainty is her real exposure, and watching Columbo dismantle it one politely dumb question at a time makes this one of the sharpest early entries in the series.
