Synopsis
The Six Million Dollar Man (1973) is an American sci-fi television movie by Richard Irving you can watch online on iFILM. Colonel Steve Austin, an astronaut and test pilot, barely survives the crash of an experimental lifting body aircraft. He loses an eye, an arm and both legs in the wreck.
A secret government agency, the OSI, is willing to spend six million dollars to rebuild him. Bionic implants make Austin faster, stronger and tougher than any ordinary man: a zoom-lens left eye, an arm and legs with inhuman power. The price of his second life is simple — he works as a covert operative, and the first assignment is already waiting. Lee Majors plays Austin with no superhero swagger, more a weary man learning to trust a body that is no longer entirely his own.
This ninety-minute feature launched one of the seventies' biggest franchises: the pilot grew into a multi-season series, spun off The Bionic Woman, and gave pop culture that slow-motion "bionic" run with its unmistakable sound effect. Worth a look for anyone curious about the roots of the enhanced-human genre, long before today's cyborgs. Stream The Six Million Dollar Man (1973) online on iFILM.
