Synopsis
The Chair (2021) Season 1 — a six-episode Netflix comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM. Ji-Yoon Kim becomes the first woman of color to chair the English department at Pembroke University. The celebration lasts about five minutes.
The department is bleeding students and budget. Senior faculty who once mattered now lecture near-empty rooms. Ji-Yoon is trying to push through some kind of reform when a video from Bill's class starts circulating across campus — and she has to decide whether to protect her friend or protect her position. Neither option is clean. A new faculty hire quietly kills Yaz's tenure chances from underneath her. The dean keeps piling on. A town hall goes sideways. By the final hearing, the institution has made its expectations very clear.
Sandra Oh plays the whole season in low-grade crisis mode — competent, exhausted, and impossible to look away from. Stream The Chair Season 1 online on iFILM.
