Synopsis
The Chair (2021) is a six-episode Netflix comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM. Sandra Oh stars as Dr. Ji-Yoon Kim, the first woman of color to chair the English department at prestigious Pembroke University.
She takes the job just as the department hits the rocks. Enrollment is sliding, tenured professors lecture to half-empty rooms, and the dean wants the old guard pushed out to trim costs. Ji-Yoon juggles all of it while covering for Bill Dobson (Jay Duplass), a gifted, grieving colleague whose classroom stunt spirals into a campus-wide mess.
Created by Amanda Peet and Annie Julia Wyman and produced by the Game of Thrones showrunners, the series packs faculty politics, generational friction and the cost of doing the right thing into tight half-hour episodes.
