Synopsis
Gator (1976) is a crime action picture you can watch online on iFILM. It marks Burt Reynolds' debut behind the camera, and he stars too — as ex-con and former moonshiner Gator McKlusky. Fresh out of prison, he just wants a quiet stretch with his father in a cabin deep in the Okefenokee Swamp.
That quiet doesn't last. A federal agent corners him with an ultimatum: help take down local crime boss Bama McCall, or lose custody of his nine-year-old daughter. McKlusky drags his feet at first, but the deeper he digs, the uglier it gets — extortion, prostitution, even murder. He pulls in reporter Aggie Maybank and a handful of swamp-country eccentrics to dismantle McCall's operation.
This is a sequel to White Lightning and pure 1970s Southern drive-in fare: boat chases through the backwaters, a twangy soundtrack, and rough-edged humor. Alongside Reynolds you get Lauren Hutton and country singer Jerry Reed as the heavy. No masterpiece, but a solid slab of old-school action with plenty of bayou flavor for genre fans.
