Synopsis
Saint Frances (2020) is a US dramedy worth watching online on iFILM. It's summer in an affluent Chicago suburb, and thirty-four-year-old Bridget — no career, no plan — lands a job nannying six-year-old Frances right around the time she has an abortion. Star Kelly O'Sullivan wrote the screenplay; her partner Alex Thompson directed.
Frances turns out to be stubborn, chatty and somehow wiser than the woman paid to watch her. Meanwhile Bridget juggles the girl's two moms, an awkward fling, and a body that refuses to behave after the procedure. The film talks about female biology, postpartum depression and motherhood plainly, with no euphemisms and no melodrama. Where other movies cut away, this one keeps looking.
It picked up the Audience Award at SXSW and became a model of warm American indie filmmaking: small budget, big honesty. If you're tired of glossy stories about "finding yourself," this one is funnier and far more candid. Stream Saint Frances (2020) online on iFILM.
