Outlaw

Outlaw (Bandida - A Número Um, 2024) is a Brazilian crime action film you can watch online on iFILM. In the Rocinha favela of 1980s Rio de Janeiro, nine-year-old Rebeca is sold by her own grandmother to the bookseller who ran the hillside.

Rebeca grows up where power keeps changing hands between illegal lottery bosses and drug dealers. First she becomes the wife of the top trafficker; when he dies, she takes over the operation herself. Her climb from the bottom of the favela to the top of its criminal ladder runs on money, guns, love and blood, and every step up costs more than the last. Maria Bomani carries the lead, with Milhem Cortaz alongside her.

Director João Wainer, better known as a documentarian, shoots Rocinha without gloss — cramped alleys, heat, a threat waiting around every corner. This isn't a gangster fairy tale but a hard portrait of a woman surviving a world that left her no choice. It lands for anyone who likes Brazilian crime cinema in the vein of City of God.
