Synopsis
The Farthest (2018) is a documentary about NASA's Voyager mission that you can stream online on iFILM. Director Emer Reynolds built the film around interviews with the scientists who designed the probes and spent careers tracking their flight.
Launched in 1977, Voyager 2 swept past Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune; Voyager 1 became the first human-made object to cross into interstellar space — and both are still transmitting. The film covers the science of those planetary flybys and the story behind the golden records on board: what was chosen to represent Earth to any intelligence that might one day intercept it, and why. Among those on screen are mission scientist Edward Stone and astronomer Carolyn Porco.
