Synopsis
Plan 75 (2022) is a quietly chilling Japanese dystopian drama you can watch online on iFILM. Director Chie Hayakawa imagines a near-future Japan where the state rolls out a tidy solution to an aging population: turn 75, and you may sign up to be euthanized — for free, with a small cash bonus for your family.
Chieko Baishô plays Michi, an elderly woman who loses her cleaning job and watches her savings run out. Her path crosses a young Plan 75 salesman, who processes applications until a relative's name lands on his list, and a Filipino caregiver wiring money back home. Three lives orbit the same bureaucratic machine that prices a human exit.
A France–Japan–Philippines–Qatar coproduction, the film earned a special mention for best first feature at Cannes. Hayakawa shoots it slow and almost without score, and that restraint cuts deeper than any thriller jolt. If you like patient, humane cinema about old age and the cost of convenient policy, this one stays with you. Stream Plan 75 (2022) online on iFILM.
