The show tracks Captain Laure Berthaud (Caroline Proust) and her squad of major-crime detectives. Around them orbit an ambitious prosecutor, an investigating judge, and defense lawyer Joséphine Karlsson (Audrey Fleurot), who'll represent anyone if it moves her career forward. Every case drags a chain of consequences behind it — hence the title. One gear turns the next, and the whole justice machine grinds, jams and chews people up. The cops lie and burn out; the suspects are sometimes more honest than the ones chasing them.

Creator Alexandra Clert built what amounts to France's answer to the great American cop dramas — no gloss, just the documentary grit of Parisian crime and courtroom procedure.
