The world is split in two: the western kingdoms of humans, and Xadia, home to elves and dragons. That divide turned to open hatred after humans destroyed the Dragon King's egg using forbidden dark magic. Princes Callum and Ezran stumble upon that same egg — intact. The elf Rayla, sent to kill their father, finds them there. The three unlikely allies decide to carry the egg back to Xadia and try to stop the next war before it breaks. The road is long.
