Synopsis
Sennentuntschi: Curse of the Alps (2010) is a Swiss folk-horror thriller directed by Michael Steiner — watch online on iFILM. The title comes from a real Alpine legend: herdsmen who spent summers on remote high pastures would build themselves a woman out of straw and rags, and the legend says she came alive.
It is 1975. A mute, terrified young woman turns up in the mountain village of Trepunt the morning after the local priest takes his own life. She recoils at crosses. In a Catholic village, that is enough to start talk of witchcraft. Police officer Reusch is the only one willing to look for a rational answer — and what he uncovers is darker than anything the villagers suspected.
Roxane Mesquida carries the stranger role without speaking a single word, and that silence is what the film runs on. Steiner grounds the horror in real Alpine geography and old superstition rather than genre convention. A slow-burn mystery that ends somewhere genuinely disturbing.
