Synopsis

Motti Wolkenbruch (Joel Basman) is the dutiful son: he's finishing his degree and sitting politely through every matchmaking date his mother arranges. The trouble is that every candidate she picks looks unnervingly like her. Then, at university, Motti falls for Laura — a non-Jewish girl, the dreaded "shiksa" whose name alone would set off a storm at home. Pulled between two worlds, he slowly starts growing a will of his own: new clothes, new haircut, new habits, a first taste of a life he didn't have scripted for him.
Director Michael Steiner adapted the film from Thomas Meyer's bestselling novel, and it became one of the highest-earning local releases in Switzerland. The tone is warm and teasing rather than mocking — a coming-of-age comedy about how hard it is to pull away from a loving, smothering family.
