Synopsis
The Prime Minister (De Premier, 2016) is a Belgian political thriller directed by Erik Van Looy — watch online on iFILM. Van Looy built his reputation with The Alzheimer Case, and here he applies the same tight-grip style to a higher-stakes scenario. Koen De Bouw plays the PM at the centre of it.
The Belgian Prime Minister never makes it to his scheduled meeting with the US President. He is intercepted first. The terms are simple: if he wants his wife and children back alive, he has to kill the American himself — at the official summit, in front of cameras, within hours. That is the setup. The rest of the film is a man looking for a third option that does not exist.
Van Looy keeps it moving at the pace of a countdown clock. The tension holds because the mechanics are airtight — you understand exactly what he can and cannot do, and every courtesy scene at the summit becomes a slow-motion trap. Lean, well-paced, and harder to shake than expected. Stream The Prime Minister (2016) online on iFILM.
