Synopsis

Season 3 of Real Time with Bill Maher (2005) is up to watch online on iFILM — 23 HBO episodes covering the first year of Bush's second term, and the volume never drops just because the election is over.

This run gets heavier than the last. The Pope's death, the Terri Schiavo fight, Cindy Sheehan camped outside the president's ranch, the Hurricane Katrina failure and the poverty it exposed in New Orleans, the Valerie Plame leak. Maher pushes all of it through the monologue and the panel, where Christopher Hitchens sits beside Salman Rushdie one week and Ann Coulter faces Ben Affleck the next. The guest bench is unusually wide here, from Robin Williams and Kurt Vonnegut to Chris Rock and Jane Fonda.

What the season does best is Katrina: several back-to-back episodes that hammer the administration's response. Stream Real Time with Bill Maher Season 3 online on iFILM.
