Synopsis
A Cop (Un flic, 1972) is Jean-Pierre Melville's final film, a French crime thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Alain Delon plays Commissioner Edouard Coleman — a detective so world-weary he barely speaks. Melville's Paris is grey and near-silent, its streets emptied of warmth.
Coleman is working a coastal bank robbery while keeping company with Cynthia, played by Catherine Deneuve. Her permanent companion, played by Richard Crenna, is running a separate operation that eventually crosses Coleman's path. When the two men's lives collide, the betrayal comes from a direction Coleman had never considered — among people he trusted.
The centerpiece is a near-wordless train heist lasting fifteen minutes, executed with a level of cold precision that still impresses today.
