Synopsis
'G' Men (1935) is a hard-charging Warner Bros. crime drama starring James Cagney, now available to watch online on iFILM. A lawyer trades his practice for a federal badge.
James "Brick" Davis owes his law degree to a mobster named McKay, yet he's always refused to work the wrong side of the street. When a close friend is gunned down by a notorious criminal, Brick walks away from the courtroom and signs up with the Department of Justice to hunt the killer. The casting is the real twist: Cagney, Hollywood's go-to gangster, finally pins on a badge.
The film arrived in 1935, just as Warner Bros. was reshaping the gangster picture under pressure from the censors — the hero is now the federal agent, not the crook. Directed by William Keighley, it runs on tight pacing, blazing shootouts and Cagney at full throttle. Golden-age Hollywood for anyone who loves black-and-white crime.
