Synopsis
Midori (1992), released abroad as Mr. Arashi's Amazing Freak Show, is an underground Japanese horror anime you can watch online on iFILM. This is no children's cartoon — it's a brutal adult drama adapted from Suehiro Maruo's ero-guro manga.
Twelve-year-old Midori is orphaned and selling flowers on the street when a stranger lures her into a traveling circus with promises of shelter and food. What waits backstage is a freak show: beatings, slave labor and constant cruelty. A brief reprieve arrives with Masamitsu, a hypnotist of short stature whose act finally brings the troupe money and gives Midori her first hope in ages. That hope, though, turns out to carry a price worse than the circus itself.
Director Hiroshi Harada drew the film largely by himself over several years, and its graphic violence kept it banned from screenings for a long time, surviving mostly as bootleg copies traded among collectors. It's a hard, painful piece of arthouse animation — strictly for viewers chasing the extreme edges of the medium, not casual entertainment. Stream Midori (1992) online on iFILM.
