Imprint

Imprint (2006) is a Japanese-American horror TV film directed by Takashi Miike — watch it online on iFILM. Made for the Masters of Horror anthology on Showtime, it was the only episode the network refused to air: too extreme for broadcast. An American man (Billy Drago) arrives by boat at a 19th-century Japanese island brothel, searching for a woman he once loved and left behind.

A disfigured prostitute agrees to tell him what happened to her. Each version of the story she tells is worse than the last. Miike packs Japanese folk horror mythology, unflinching violence, and a nested-narrative structure into 63 minutes — the result is the rare short film that justifies the ban.
