Synopsis
The Eddy (2020) is a Netflix musical drama you can watch online on iFILM. Former New York pianist Elliot Udo has settled in Paris, where he co-owns a money-losing jazz club and tries hard to forget the name he once made for himself.
The club is sinking — debt, dirty money, dangerous men showing up at the door, and a complicated history with the band's singer. Then his fifteen-year-old daughter Julie arrives from the States, and Elliot has to keep the business afloat, hold the musicians together, and relearn how to be a father all at once. André Holland plays him weary and contained, Joanna Kulig and Leïla Bekhti give the club its raw edge, and Amandla Stenberg brings all the anger of a teenager who feels abandoned.
Damien Chazelle (La La Land, Whiplash) directed the first two episodes, and the band performs live on camera, which is why the show looks handheld and documentary and sounds like an actual set. Eight episodes move between English, French and Arabic; it's made for viewers who care more about sound and the texture of Paris than a racing plot.
