Synopsis
The Patient (2022) is an American psychological thriller series you can watch online on iFILM. Created by Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg for Hulu, it stars Steve Carell as therapist Alan Strauss and Donal Gleeson as his patient Sam.
Alan is still working through the death of his wife when Sam, a seemingly ordinary patient, discloses that he kills people — and then locks Alan in his basement. Sam isn't bragging. He wants help. He believes therapy can stop him, and he needs that help to start immediately, in captivity, before the next urge takes hold.
Ten short episodes, essentially two men in a room, and it is genuinely difficult to watch — not because of gore, but because both characters are drawn with enough specificity that neither becomes a symbol.
