Dinosaur 13
The true tale of one of the greatest discoveries in history.
Synopsis
Dinosaur 13 (2014) is a documentary by Todd Douglas Miller you can watch online on iFILM. In 1990, a small team digging in the South Dakota badlands pulled "Sue" from the rock — the largest, most complete Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton ever unearthed.
Then the government came for her. Two years after the find, federal agents and the National Guard rolled into Hill City, seized the bones, and accused paleontologist Peter Larson of stealing them from public land. What followed was a ten-year legal grind: raids, a thirty-nine-count indictment, prison time — all over a creature that died 67 million years ago.
Miller builds the film almost entirely from the diggers' own home footage, which is why it lands so hard: you watch grown scientists weep over a fossil like it's family. It's a story about passion colliding with the fine print of federal law. Worth your time if you like documentaries where ordinary people take on a government that outguns them.
