Spy Cat

Spy Cat (Die sagenhaften Vier, 2019) is a German animated family film you can watch online on iFILM. Then two criminals ship her across the country in a cardboard box, the box gets lost, and Marnie finds herself standing in a muddy field with no idea what a field is.

She teams up with a Dog, a Rooster, and a Donkey — a lineup straight out of the Brothers Grimm story of the Bremen Town Musicians, which is precisely what directors Wolfgang and Christoph Lauenstein are reworking here. The Lauenstein brothers claimed the Academy Award for Best Animated Short in 1990 for Balance, and their feature debut is properly crafted: fast-paced, funny, and free of moralising.
