Dinosaur King (Seasons 1–2)

Dinosaur King (古代王者恐竜キング, 2007) is a Japanese animated adventure series — watch it online on iFILM. Twelve-year-old Max Taylor, son of a paleontologist, finds strange carved stones in the woods after a meteor lands nearby. He and his friends Rex Owen and Zoe Drake figure out quickly that the stones summon real dinosaurs — each one tied to an elemental card.

Standing in their way is the Alpha Gang, a group of villains determined to collect every dinosaur card and use the creatures for world domination. Each episode introduces a new species, a new battle, and a handful of actual facts about the animal that just charged onto the screen.

The series grew out of Sega's arcade and card game franchise but holds up as a standalone adventure. It's pitched squarely at younger viewers who like their action colorful and their dinosaurs loud — and who might actually retain a few species names along the way.
