Germany lies in ruins in 1945. American justice Robert Jackson (Alec Baldwin) heads the prosecution and insists the 21 Nazi defendants be judged by law, not by the victors' will. His sharpest opponent across the courtroom is Hermann Göring (Brian Cox), who turns the dock into a contest and nearly outtalks the prosecutors. Away from the bench, the Allies quarrel over what counts for more — punishment now, or a precedent that will outlast them all.
