Troy is being pulled apart. Vice Dean Laybourne wants him for the mysterious Air Conditioning Repair Annex — an institution with its own hierarchy, its own mythology, and an ask that could change his life. Abed's grip on reality starts slipping in ways that begin as charming and end somewhere more complicated. Chang, stripped of his teaching role, insinuates himself back into campus life as a security guard and quietly builds toward something the group doesn't notice until it's almost too late. Pierce drifts further. Shirley remarries and tries to keep her business ambitions intact at the same time.
The genre experiments continue — episode four splits a housewarming party into six alternate timelines and is widely cited as one of the finest half-hours the American sitcom has ever produced.
