Yu Yu Hakusho (Season 1)

Yu Yu Hakusho (2023) is a Japanese fantasy series from Netflix you can watch online on iFILM. Takumi Kitamura plays Yusuke Urameshi, a teenage delinquent whose only genuinely good act — stepping in front of a car to save a child — gets him killed. The afterlife's bureaucrats are stumped: the kid was bad enough for hell but not bad enough to deserve it outright. So they hand him a job instead.

Yusuke is recruited as a Spirit Detective, tasked with tracking down rogue yokai crossing the boundary between the human world and realms that aren't supposed to bleed through. Kanata Hongo joins the ensemble as the season builds his crew out around him. The show adapts Yoshihiro Togashi's manga from the early 1990s — the source that defined action-fantasy for an entire generation of manga and anime readers.

Netflix produced it as a proper live-action series rather than animation, five episodes with high-end fight choreography and an all-Japanese cast. It's an efficient origin — fans of the original get the key beats, newcomers get a world that explains itself fast and then gets out of the way.
