Synopsis
Yu Yu Hakusho (2023), Season 1 is Netflix's Japanese fantasy-action series you can watch online on iFILM — five episodes adapting Yoshihiro Togashi's manga. Delinquent teen Yusuke Urameshi dies saving a kid, then comes back with a job: Spirit Detective.
That's the engine of the season. A death, an odd resurrection, and a badge to hunt rogue yokai. Yusuke wrestles his new powers into shape while three thieves make off with dangerous artifacts from the Spirit World, and children at a park drop unconscious for no reason anyone can name. The trail leads to Kubikukuri Island, where his crew splits off to face their own opponents and Keiko, locked in a cell, works out a way out. By the back half a far heavier threat steps in front of Yusuke than the small fry of the opening.
It's shot like a real film, not a budget cash-in: the effects cost money, the fights are staged for keeps, and the yokai look genuinely wrong in the best way.
