Synopsis
Bootleggers (Samogonshchiki, 1962) is a short Soviet comedy by Leonid Gaidai, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Nineteen near-wordless minutes that generations grew up on — the second outing for the beloved trio Coward, Dunce and Pro.
Deep in a forest lodge, Vitsin, Nikulin and Morgunov have set up a tidy moonshine operation. Bottles line the shelves in neat rows, business is booming, life is sweet. What trips them up isn't the police — it's their own dog, Barbos. The loyal mutt decides to fetch his masters a stolen condenser coil and drags the evidence straight toward the local station. From there it's a classic Gaidai chase, with the proof outrunning the crooks.
It plays almost like silent cinema: the whole thing rides on the actors' physical timing, Nikita Bogoslovsky's score and the cutting. No famous song yet — just that trio at full strength. A people's classic that keeps getting rewatched decade after decade. Stream Bootleggers (1962) online on iFILM.
