Synopsis
Peculiarities of the National Fishing (1998) is a Russian comedy by Aleksandr Rogozhkin you can watch online on iFILM. The same crew that survived a chaotic hunting trip reunites for a calm weekend of fishing. Calm is not on the menu.
General Ivolgin, forester Kuzmich, easygoing Lyova and their Finnish friend Raivo load up the boats with tackle, snacks and crate after crate of vodka. The plan holds until the tipsy group drifts across the border without noticing and ends up relaxing in Finland. They scramble back home — only to realize the entire vodka supply was left on the far shore of the Gulf of Finland. Recovering it becomes a mission of its own.
A sequel to Peculiarities of the National Hunt, this one burrowed even deeper into Russian pop culture; Kuzmich's lines and the general's toasts get quoted to this day. There's no hidden satire here, just a warm shaggy-dog story about male friendship, absurdity and finding joy in very little. Stream Peculiarities of the National Fishing (1998) online on iFILM.
