Synopsis
La Mante (2017) is a French crime series you can watch online on iFILM. Jeanne Deber, nicknamed the Mantis, terrorized France twenty-five years ago and has sat in solitary ever since. Then a copycat surfaces, reproducing her killings one by one.
The police are forced to come to Jeanne herself. She agrees, but on a brutal condition: she will speak to a single person, her son Damien, who became a cop precisely because of his mother's crimes and has refused to lay eyes on her since the arrest. Carole Bouquet plays Jeanne cold and calculating, and every meeting between mother and son cuts somewhere raw. Across six episodes the family wound pulls at you as hard as the manhunt does.
Director Alexandre Laurent keeps the tension steady and parcels out answers slowly: who is copying the Mantis, and why, stays open almost to the last scene. A solid European procedural for anyone who took to The Killing or French noir like Spiral. Stream La Mante (2017) online on iFILM.
