Synopsis
The President's Last Bang (2005) is a South Korean political dark comedy you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Im Sang-soo. On the night of October 26, 1979, the director of the Korean Central Intelligence Agency shot and killed President Park Chung-hee, who had held power since 1961. The film reconstructs those hours in close, unsettling detail.
Han Suk-kyu leads a cast that plays it almost deadpan: the men who carried out the killing barely know what comes next, and the chaos that follows is part tragedy, part institutional farce. Im Sang-soo keeps the camera cold and observational — no heroism, no judgment, just a power structure eating itself from the inside. The film faced legal action from the former president's family upon Korean release, which only sharpened its reputation abroad. Stream The President's Last Bang (2005) online on iFILM.
