Synopsis
Cinema, Aspirins and Vultures (Cinema, Aspirinas e Urubus, 2005) is a Brazilian road drama by Marcelo Gomes you can watch online on iFILM. It's 1942, and the dusty backroads of the country's northeast belong to Johan, a German who drives village to village screening little adverts and selling aspirin — anything to stay clear of the war he fled Europe to escape.
Along the way he picks up Ranulpho, a local man worn down by drought and dead-end poverty, desperate to reach the coast, the city, somewhere with a future. Two strangers share a truck cab, cigarettes and long silences, and slowly the road binds them tighter than talk ever could.
Gomes shoots a quiet, sun-bleached journey about how a distant European war reaches even the end of the world. The film was Brazil's Oscar submission and took the FIPRESCI prize at Cannes. Stream Cinema, Aspirins and Vultures (2005) online on iFILM.
