Synopsis
Krippendorf's Tribe (1998) is the family comedy you can watch online on iFILM, with Richard Dreyfuss as an anthropologist who blew his grant and now has to invent a discovery to cover for it.
James Krippendorf took a hundred grand to find New Guinea's last unknown tribe. He came back with no money, no tribe, three kids, and the fresh grief of a widower. With a lecture looming and his career on the line, he picks the wildest possible lie: grass huts go up in the backyard, his own children get smeared with paint and renamed the Shelmikedmu, and his faked footage of this "primitive culture" leaves the academic world spellbound. The catch is a jealous rival who smells a fraud and won't let it go.
The deeper the cover-up runs, the more the whole household gets dragged into the performance, and the funnier the unraveling gets. Jenna Elfman keeps pace with Dreyfuss, while Lily Tomlin, Natasha Lyonne and a very young Mila Kunis fill out the cast. It's breezy, old-fashioned farce, the kind you put on with the kids.
