Synopsis
The Green Planet (2022) is a BBC documentary series you can watch online on iFILM. David Attenborough guides the journey, this time from the point of view of plants — the kingdom that took hold long before the first animals and still quietly runs the place.
Across five episodes the series moves through rainforests, deserts, the underwater world and seasonal landscapes most of us walk past without a second look. The cameras catch what the eye never can: a vine strangling a rival for a patch of light, a seed waiting out months for its moment, a flower tricking an insect into carrying its pollen. A purpose-built robotic time-lapse rig glides around a growing stem, so the slow warfare of the plant world finally plays out at human speed.
Director Elisabeth Oakham and the BBC team shoot botany like an action picture, complete with predators, allies and a race to survive. It lands for anyone raised on Planet Earth, and for anyone who never suspected a houseplant was waging a war. Stream The Green Planet (2022) online on iFILM.
