Synopsis
La Belle Verte (1996) is a French comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Director and lead actress Coline Serreau plays Mila, a woman from a distant planet who volunteers to visit Earth — the one world the entire intergalactic community gave up on long ago.
Mila arrives in a modern city and finds it exactly as advertised: loud, car-choked, full of people who have stopped noticing each other. She has an unusual ability — she can briefly "disconnect" individuals from the social grid, leaving them to behave as if no one expects anything of them at all. The effect is comic, occasionally surreal, and sometimes surprisingly moving. Vincent Lindon plays Dr. Max, one of the first to experience it. A young Marion Cotillard appears in a small supporting role.
The film was pulled from French distribution shortly after its release, reportedly after pressure from groups who found its message objectionable — which is a strange thing to happen to a gentle green comedy.
