Synopsis
The Tick (1994), Season 1 is the superhero spoof cartoon you can watch online on iFILM — thirteen episodes of a giant blue muscleman and his accountant sidekick, who fights crime dressed as a moth, guarding The City from a parade of ridiculous crooks.
The opener finally explains where Tick and Arthur came from. After that it runs one oddball villain per episode, each sillier than the last: Chairface Chippendale, who wears a chair for a head; the Breadmaster, terrorizing town with pastry; the plant-conqueror El Seed; the hypnotist Mr. Mental. The thread holding it together is Arthur, forever unsure he is the right partner for a hero who is indestructible but not exactly bright.
This is Ben Edlund's send-up of caped heroics, the one that began as a comic and later spawned live-action shows. The comedy works because Tick stays dead serious while everything around him is nonsense. Stream The Tick Season 1 online on iFILM.
