Synopsis
Samurai Assassin (侍, 1965) — watch online on iFILM. Kihachi Okamoto's historical drama unfolds in Japan on the eve of the Sakurada Gate incident, March 1860, when the Mito clan closed in to kill the all-powerful Lord Ii Naosuke, the shogunate's iron fist.
At the center is Niiro Tsurichiyo — illegitimate son of a samurai lord, raised among merchants, denied a family crest but gifted with a blade. He joins the conspirators not out of ideology but desperate ambition: prove his blood, earn a name. The clan grows suspicious he is a spy. Toshiro Mifune plays a man whose private tragedy collides with the collapse of an era.
Okamoto's film is quieter than the premise suggests — more about shame and exclusion than sword fights. Stream Samurai Assassin (1965) on iFILM.
