Synopsis
Dorothy Mills (2008) is a French-Irish psychological horror thriller directed by Agnès Merlet — watch online on iFILM. Carice van Houten and Gary Lewis lead a film that wraps a supernatural premise around something more disturbing: what a closed, fearful community does to its children.
Psychiatrist Jane is sent to a remote island village to evaluate Dorothy Mills, a teenager accused of attacking an infant. The locals are tight-lipped and hostile from the start. During sessions Dorothy shifts voices, slips between personalities, and seems to speak with people who aren't in the room. Jane begins to suspect that whatever is happening to this girl goes far beyond dissociation — and that the village knows exactly how it started.
Van Houten's physical work here is striking; she moves through multiple identities without any obvious theatrical cues, just posture and pitch. Merlet keeps the horror grounded in guilt and collective silence rather than spectacle. Stream Dorothy Mills (2008) online on iFILM.
