Into the West

"Into the West" (1992) is an Irish-British family fantasy adventure you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Mike Newell from a screenplay by Jim Sheridan, the film follows two brothers from a traveller family in Dublin who take in a white horse named Tír na nÓg — and when authorities seize the animal, the boys steal it back and ride west across Ireland.

Gabriel Byrne plays their father, a man hollowed out by grief, while the film's real weight falls on young Ciarán Fitzgerald and Ruaidhrí Conroy. The police, a developer, and a £5,000 reward are all in pursuit. The horse is named after the Irish mythological land of eternal youth, and Newell leans into that folklore without apology — the story exists in a space between gritty Dublin tenements and genuine magic.
